MORGAN LEIGH LANCER “The decision to have a child is to accept that your heart will forever walk about outside your body.“ - Katherine Hadley BURLINGTON — Morgan Leigh Lancer, age 26, of Burlington, Vermont, died unexpectedly on Thursday, August 21, 2008, in Hartford, Conn. Morgan was born July 31, 1982, in Burlington. She graduated from Mt. Abraham High School, which she attended with her many childhood friends including Ashley Perez, Meredith Bless, Lindsay Lathrop, and Megan Vaughn. Morgan coached youth soccer during high school, ran cross-country, and skied at Sugarbush, where she taught skiing in the Sugarbear program. Morgan trained in tae kwon do with her father, Bruce Lancer, and attained the level of black belt. In the summers, Morgan was a camp counselor at Camp Wapanaki Girl Scout camp. After high school, Morgan apprenticed at a glass blowing studio. Morgan attended Johnson College where she studied alternative medicine. She leaves behind her parents, Marianne and Bruce Lancer; her brother Shane Lancer; aunts Christine Corcoran, Carol Hickey, Dorothy D'Amato, Sandy Wynne; uncles Vincent Hickey, Dick D'Amato, Jim Corcoran, Sean McKenzie, Brooke Ellis; cousins Timothy McKenzie, Catherine McKenzie, Alexander McKenzie, Kohler McKenzie, Jonathan Hickey, Allison Hickey, Lauren Hickey; godparents Billy Van der Putten and Jody Milano. She was predeceased by her maternal grandparents, Evelyn and Bernard Hickey of Burlington; and paternal grandmother, Mary Sorrell of Bristol. Morgan's friends in Johnson held a farewell bonfire on August 23, 2008. A service will be held on Tuesday at the Unitarian Church (top of Church Street) from 7 to 8 p.m., and a celebration of Morgan's life will be held Wednesday at Oakledge Park, from 5:30 to 9 p.m. For information on where to send flowers or donations, contact Megan Vaughn, 802-388-0231.
